"The Magicians" star Hale Appleman recently sat down to discuss his character Eliot Waugh's huge transformation from carefree party animal to cold-blooded murderer in episode eight.

In "Strangled Heart," Eliot's ex-boyfriend Mike revealed that he is working with the mysterious supernatural creature known only as the Beast. He nearly killed Penny Adiyodi during Quentin Coldwater's assassination attempt and successfully murdered Professor Sunderland.

Mike also attempted to kill Dean Foggs, but at the last minute Eliot appeared and used his magic to murder his former love.

"The Magicians" star Hale Appleman revealed to Zap2It that his character Eliot was so upset over the betrayal that he was practically possessed by his pain during the confrontation with Mike.

"He had no choice but to unleash it," the actor explained. "It's almost like he became possessed by the fury of his pain."

Appleman added that upcoming episodes is going to explore how Eliot uses a false sense of assurance to hide the fact that he is constantly suppressing his feelings in a world that doesn't understand him.

"He's always suppressing his feelings," he said. "But every so often, something hurts him and he's in so much pain that he retaliates in a way that is furious and full of all the pain, anger, and anguish he suffered as a young person in this world that doesn't accept him."

"The Magicians" star pointed out that episode eight was a huge turning point and viewers will have the opportunity to watch Eliot fall apart in the wake of Mike's murder.

"Episode eight was the big turning point," Appleman explained. "I hope the fans embrace these next couple of episodes, because they set Eliot up on the trajectory of his deep, dark spiral. It's important that we see try to keep things together, even as he falls apart."

SpoilerTV added that the promotional trailer for episode nine revealed that Quentin and his friends are going to discover how the idea for the "Fillory and Further" series was born.

The preview also hinted that the author of the book series is being held hostage and tortured in a magical memory. There is a good chance that Quentin and the others will have to save him from his supernatural prison.

"The Magicians" is currently airing on Monday nights at 9 p.m. ET on Syfy.
