Oscar Isaac, the actor who will portray the villain Apocalypse in the upcoming "X-Men" film directed by Bryan Singer, revealed that he grew up in a devoutly Christian home, so basing his character from the Book of Revelations came naturally to him.

"I'd kind of gotten obsessed with the Book of Revelations just because it's so hallucinogenic and trippy and scary, and I thought it would be fun to really go into that language," he told the Los Angeles Times. "That was part of the process that I really enjoyed: coming up with a sound philosophy for the villain to have, something that was a little more specific and nuanced than just destruction."

On the other hand, Singer said that Isaac's villain does not really see himself as a mutant. Because of his powers and abilities, he considers himself a god.

"For all intents and purposes, he is potentially the god of the Old Testament," Singer said. "After being buried for 4,000 years, he awakens to a society that has become interconnected and developed hubris. Humans have created nuclear weapons and assumed godlike proportions in the buildings they build and the things they create. So he sets about to eradicate those things and build what he considers a cleaner, purer world."

But as exciting as it is to see this villain try to take the world down, Singer said that fans should not get confused about the main draw of "X-Men: Apocalypse."

The director told Collider that ultimately, "X-Men: Apocalypse" is all about the story of how a group of lost and confused mutants are brought together as a single unit.

"So there's a lot of rebirths and stuff, but in the end ultimately this movie, in the final thing, this movie is about the story of the formation of the X-Men. That's really what this is," he said.

"X-Men: Apocalypse" will hit cinemas on May 27.
