The list of nominees was recently released for the 2016 Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG) and the LA Times reported "Game of Thrones" is up for the "Outstanding Performance By An Ensemble In A Drama Series" award

3. The Show Gives Each Cast Member The Time To Shine

While "Homeland," "Downton Abbey," "Mad Men," and "House of Cards" all have a talented cast, "Game of Thrones" makes sure to highlight almost every cast member equally throughout the season. George R.R. Martin's original novels are written in chapters from a particular main character's point of view.

Unlike other television shows with an ensemble cast, "Game of Thrones" has adapted Martin's source material and allowed each of the main actors their time to shine in the spotlight.

Each member of the ensemble is given their own thoughtful storyline and by the time a season ends, the "Game of Thrones" writers have made sure that their arcs have reached a satisfying conclusion.

2. Season Five Kept Viewers On The Edge Of Their Seats

"Game of Thrones" might have some stiff competition from "Downtown Abbey" at the 2016 Screen Actors Guild awards because PBS just started airing the final season of the latter show for American fans.

However, there is a good chance that "Game of Thrones" will take home the prize because the fifth season was action-packed and kept fans on the edge of their seats.

Whether it was the apparent death Jon Snow, who was the young Lord Commander of the Night's Watch or queen regent Cersei Lannister's heartbreaking "walk of shame" for committing incest with her twin brother Jaime, "Game of Thrones" threw quite a few curveballs that left their viewers speechless.

Due to such shocking storylines and how deftly the "Game of Thrones" writers showcased the ensemble cast in the fifth season, there is a good chance that HBO's hit series will be crowned the winner at the awards ceremony.

1. They Lost To 'Downton Abbey' Last Year

ET Online reported that "Downton Abbey" beat "Game of Thrones" in the same category last year.

Even though there is a good chance that "Downton Abbey" will hold on to its crown because the series ended, it is also possible that the Screen Actors Guild will give the award to "Game of Thrones."

After all, it would be boring if the same show won year after year.

Plus, sites such as IGN gave "Game of Thrones" season five a glowing review for keeping fans breathless with anticipation while watching scenes such as the Battle of Hardhome, which saw Jon Snow and the wildlings help the Night's Watch fight the White Walkers.

The 2016 Screen Actors Guild awards will air on Saturday, Jan. 30, at 8 p.m. on both TBS and TNT.

"Game of Thrones" fans, do you think the show will win for "Outstanding Performance By An Ensemble In A Drama Series?" Vote in our poll below and let us know your thoughts!
