'Fifty Shades Darker' Casts Mrs. Robinson! Kim Basinger To Play Christian Grey's Former Lover

(Photo : Getty Images/Larry Buseca) Actress Kim Basinger has been cast in the titular role of Elena Lincoln in the films "Fifty Shades Darker" and "Fifty Shades Freed.'

After months of rumors as to whom would play the pivotal role of Mrs. Robinson/Elena Lincoln, the former lover of Christian Grey in "Fifty Shades Darker," it has been revealed that Kim Basinger has been cast.

Basinger will play Christian Grey's (Jamie Dornan) business partner, a former lover and the woman who introduced him to the BSDM lifestyle as a way to exercise control in his out-of-control life.

James Foley taking over directing reigns, and will direct both "Fifty Shades Darker" and the final installment of the films, "Fifty Shades Freed."

Dakota Johnson, Luke Grimes, Eloise Mumford and Max Martini are also returning to the cast, according to E!

According to Variety, Universal is planning to shoot "Fifty Shades Darker" and the final film, "Fifty Shades Freed," back-to-back, so it was important to ensure the cast was available for an extended period of time before production began on the sequels.

Basinger is no stranger to performing in titillating roles.

She came to big screen prominence in the film "9 1/2 Weeks."

In the film, co-starring Mickey Rourke, Bassinger played an art gallery assistant who gets thrown into a sexual whirlwind full of leather and bondage with a Wall Street trader, portrayed by Rourke.

The movie's popular song "Earned It," performed by The Weeknd, was nominated for Best Original song, up against songs from "Racing Extinction,"Youth,"The Hunting Ground," and "Spectre," according to EW.

After multiple stops and starts, the long-anticipated sequel to the blockbuster film "Fifty Shades of Grey" titled "Fifty Shades Darker," is finally beginning production in Canada.

The continuation of the love story of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele has been plagued with multiple stops and starts since the success of the first installment, "Fifty Shades of Grey."

The movie is listed with the Directors Guild of Canada under its working title of "Further Adventure of Max & Banks 2 & 3," according to Reel West.

The site lists the film's schedule as running from February 9, 2016 to July 12, 2016.

The film, which is slated to begin production in mid-February, is scheduled for release on February 10, 2017.
