Sabrina Carpenter has set the teen world on fire with her performance in "Girl Meets World" as Maya Hart. Alongside Rowan Blanchard, Carpenter has won legions of fans with her honest portrayal of one of the series title characters.

She Has Been A Professional Singer For Several Years
Sabrina Carpenter calls Adele and Christina Aguilera as her musical influences. She has recorded an album titled "Eyes Wide Open" for Hollywood Records. She won a Radio Disney award in 2015 in the category of "Best Crush Song" for her song "Can't Blame a Girl For Trying."
From The Time She Was A Young Girl, Carpenter Seemed Destined For A Life In The Spotlight
"We have video of me in my kitchen. I was so young and was singing 'God Bless America'," Carpenter said in an interview for Hollywood Records.
"I know a lot of people don't know what they want to do when they're that young," she remarked, "but I had a pretty good idea and my heart was pretty much set on it."
Although She Loves Acting, Singing Professionally Was Her Big Dream
Carpenter took vocal lessons starting when she was just in grade school in her hometown of Lehigh, Pa. A few years later, she entered "The Next Miley Cyrus Project," a singing contest run by Cyrus herself. According to Hollywood Records, she finished third out of more than 10,000 entries.
"That was the start of everything musically for me," she revealed. "I learned a lot about entertaining and sharing stories through your voice."
Conveying A Musical Message Makes Her Feel More Like Herself
"With acting, you're a little more confined to a specific personality, whereas with my music, I'm more myself," Carpenter claimed to HR.
"There are so many different feelings. You're trying to tell a story where you're going to be sweet or tell a dark tale where you get to express a little more soul. There are more open roads with music," she concluded.
"Girl Meets World" airs on Disney Channel.
