One Direction released their long-awaited music video for their farewell song "History" and it not only brought tears to the eyes of Directioners around the world, it racked up over eight million hits in 24 hours.
The song is set to break the 10 million view mark before its one-day debut is up.
The single, which was written as a tribute to their fans, is nostalgic to a fault.
The best part of the video for the band's die-hard fans was the inclusion of Zayn Malik, who left the band in March 2015 to pursue a solo career, according to E!
The video features black-and-white footage from the band's beginnings and their inception on "The X-Factor."
Young and innocent to the music business, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik are seen jumping for joy on the "X-Factor" stage.
The video also depicts the band as they travel in a tour bus, singing and joking around innocently.
It also depicts scenes from many of their music videos, including "Story of My Life," "What Makes You Beautiful," "Kiss You," and "Steal My Girl."
"History" is the third single off of the band's fifth album, "Made in the A.M."
The tune was recorded explicitly in tribute to the band's expansive fandom.
Reportedly, some lucky fans even provided backing vocals for the track, according to The Verge.
New reports claim that the break that One Direction has taken for 2016 is actually a permanent split.
Us Weekly reported that the foursome, who maintained that their break did not mean the end of the group, have not renewed their recording contract.
Said a source close to the band to Us Weekly, "decided not to renew their recording contract."
"The 1D thing just ran its course. They'll remain friends, but they are exhausted and want solo careers," continued the source to Us Weekly.
But not everyone will be behind the microphone.
A second source confirmed to Us Weekly, "Liam Payne is really interested in songwriting and production."
"Harry Styles is launching a career in acting and singing," claimed the insider to the magazine.
Ironically, just as the band is saying goodbye, former member Zayn Malik's first solo single titled "Pillow Talk," will drop Friday, Jan. 29, according to Malik's official Twitter.
