Fox's remake of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" may not be airing until the fall of 2016, but there is still plenty to learn about the musical that spawned a subculture all its own since its initial debut in 1973.
The Film Tanked At The Box Office Initially
"The Rocky Horror Picture Show" debuted on the state in London in 1973 and was made into a film in 1975. The film became a cult classic on the heels of midnight showings in theaters on both the east and west coast, where fans dressed up as the leading characters and acted out what they saw on stage along with the film.

It Was The First Mainstream Film To Have A Transvestite As The Main Character
The film detailed a couple, Brad and Janet, whose car breaks down and in search of a telephone, the two stumble upon a castle where a group of strange people are holding an
Annual Transylvanian Convention. The couple are soon pulled into the world of Dr. Frank N. Furter, a "sweet transvestite from Transsexual, Transylvania."
During Filming "Rocky Horror" Had Such A Small Budget For Costumes That Many Of The Pieces Were Reused Throughout The Movie
The budget for the film's costumes was $1,600, more than the stage production budget. During filming, corsets for the finale had to be doubled for the pool scene, with one version drying while the other was worn on set. Many of the costumes in the film were also reused from the stage productions in order to save money according to the website BluRay.
The Film's Writer, Richard O'Brien, Fell Into His Profession By Chance
"I never wanted to be a writer," said Richard O'Brien, creator of both the stage show and feature film. "Acting was always the important thing in my life. I had no desire to be an actor and do Shakespeare. I didn't want to be a celebrity. I just wanted to play make-believe. It was all very child-like. Very simple," he said to BluRay.
"Rocky Horror" Was Tim Curry's Second Acting Role Ever
Actor Tim Curry's first full-time role was as part of the original London cast of the musical Hair in 1968, where he first met O'Brien.
Revealed the actor in an interview, "I'd heard about the play because I lived on Paddington Street, off Baker Street, and there was an old gym a few doors away. I saw Richard O'Brien in the street, and he said he'd just been to the gym to see if he could find a muscleman who could sing."
"I said, 'Why do you need him to sing?' And he told me that his musical was going to be done, and I should talk to Jim Sharman. He gave me the script, and I thought, 'Boy if this works, it's going to be a smash!'" said Curry.
The Fox remake will be filmed, versus a live production, and stars Curry as the narrator, Victoria Justice and Disney star Ryan McCartan as Janet and Brad, Laverne Cox as Frank-N-Furter, Reeve Carney as Riff-Raff, and Staz Nair as Rocky Horror.
Also signed on to the cast is Adam Lambert, who will play the role of Eddie, originally portrayed by singer Meatloaf.
"The Rocky Horror Picture Show" will air this fall on Fox.
