"The 100" star Zach McGowan recently sat down to discuss his character Roan and hinted that there is going to be a major fight scene with Lexa in an upcoming episode.
McGowan told Collider that the bounty hunter was desperate to capture Clarke Griffin because he was cast out by the Ice Nation and is looking for a way to return home.
"There is always the inherent desire for greater comfort," the actor said. "That drives Roan a lot because living in the wilderness does not include any creature comforts."
"The 100" star added that at first Roan thought capturing Clarke would be easy but he eventually gained respect for the Commander of Death by the time he delivered her to Lexa in the second episode of season three.
"At the beginning, he definitely writes her off," McGowan explained. "She's supposed to be the great commander of death, but he scoffs at that. But over their time together, more respect grows. In the beginning, he's just a bounty hunter who is taking her. His opinion of her only really has to go up, in that way."
McGowan added that there is going to be a major fight scene between Roan and Lexa in episode four. It is possible that Lexa will offer the bounty hunter his freedom if he manages to defeat her in a sword fight.
"I met with Alycia Debnam-Carey and she had never done a sword sequence, and I've been doing a lot of that recently," he said. "She'd been a dancer, so I told her she's totally got it, because it's basically just dancing with a sword in your hand. So, we started working on it. When you do stuff like that for TV, you assume it's going to get cut down to 30 seconds but that scene is about two and a half minutes long. It's awesome and a testament to what everyone was able to put into it."
"The 100" star also hinted to Entertainment Weekly that there is a good chance that Roan could be tempted to kill Clarke once he manages to free himself from the prison Lexa threw him in.
After all, Grounder lore states that when a warrior is killer, the murderer acquires his or her power. Since Clarke killed the Mountain Men, the Grounders now want control of Clarke's powers.
"He's a complicated person and obviously power is something that will tempt anyone," McGowan said. "However, if he wanted to simply kill Clarke, he could've done so right away when he had a knife to her throat."
"The 100" season three is currently airing on Thursdays at 9 p.m. on the CW.
