"The 5th Wave" star Chloe Grace Moretz recently sat down to discuss her character Cassie Sullivan and what it was like to perform her own stunts in the upcoming film.
The actress admitted that she was drawn to "The 5th Wave" because it focused on family instead of being a simple action flick, reports The Plymouth Herald.
"Yes, it has amazing action and thriller elements, but it had a human story behind it," she said. "I found this focus on family to be interesting."
In "The 5th Wave," Earth is invaded by aliens and suffers four devastating attacks that left the planet decimated. Moretz plays a heroine named Cassie Sullivan who is trying to save her little brother and prepare for the deadly fifth wave.
Moretz added that unlike other Young Adult dystopian novels such as "The Hunger Games," there is no major love triangle, notes The National.
"It's not a traditional Young Adult novel in the sense that it doesn't deal with the essential themes of the dystopian world, such as a major love triangle and a girl plucked out of obscurity to take over and fight for everyone's rights," she said. "These things weren't there and it sparked my interest because it's not what I've seen for the past five years."
"The 5th Wave" star also went on to describe the differences between Cassie and other dystopian heroines such as Katniss Everdeen from "The Hunger Games."
"Cassie is her own independent, modern-day woman," Moretz explained. "She's just ordinary, not some highly specialized girl. It's a story of perseverance and survival. She goes from an ordinary girl to one of the most courageous you'll ever seen on screen, especially at that age."
Even though Moretz is known for wanting to perform as many of her own stunts as possible, "The 5th Wave" presented a different challenge for her.
"It was a lot easier to do stunts in this movie," she said. "It was kind of the opposite to what I'm used to, because I usually train pretty heavily for the stunts I do in movies. They were adamant that they didn't want me to look trained and I had to force myself to fumble with the gun or hold it the wrong way."
"The 5th Wave" will be released in theaters on Friday, Jan. 22, so keep checking back with Fashion&Style for the latest news about the upcoming movie.
