Good news for “Gilmore Girls” fans: a sequel series will officially premiere on Netflix later this year! The news was confirmed on Friday, January 29 after being rumored for months. Here’s what you need to know about the new “Gilmore Girls”:
1. Most of the original cast will return.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Lauren Graham (Lorelai Gilmore), Alexis Bledel (Rory Gilmore), Kelly Bishop (Emily Gilmore), Scott Patterson (Luke Danes), Keiko Agena (Lane Kim) and Sean Gunn (Kirk Gleason) are confirmed to return.
2. And so are the original producers.
Series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino will return to write, direct and produce every episode, as will her husband Daniel Palladino and their production company Dorothy Parker Drank Here Productions.
3. But some familiar faces will be missing.
Sadly, there will be no Richard Gilmore as actor Edward Herrmann passed away in December 2014. Fan favorites Liza Weil (Paris Geller) and Melissa McCarthy (Sookie) have not been confirmed to return, nor have any of Rory’s boyfriends, Milo Ventimiglia (Jess), Jared Padalecki (Dean) and Matt Czuchry (Logan).
4. It’s Amy Sherman-Palladino’s chance to get the ending right.
Sherman-Palladino is the original creator of Gilmore Girls, but she left the series before its final season due to contract disputes with the CW. She has previously spoken out about being unhappy with the series ending.
5. The episodes may be mini-movies.
Previous reports have said that the series will include four 90-minute episodes, however, Netflix has not confirmed this.
6. We may get a behind-the-scenes look.
Stars Lauren Graham and Scott Patterson tweeted photos of themselves with “Gilmore Girls” props when the news was announced, so we’re hoping that we might get a behind-the-scenes look during filming as well!
7. The new series will be all about the fans.
In a video message, Lauren Graham said, “All I can tell you is it is because of you, the devoted fans, that I get to revisit this character and go back to this world. And we are all so excited and so thankful.”
