Turning 30 is a major milestone in every woman's life. From checking things off your bucket list, to setting new goals, the big 3-0 is a prime time to reflect and move forward. And that ethos certainly applies to style as well. With so many of our favorite stars on the cusp of marking three decades of fabulousness, we decided to look back at their respective style evolutions—and we've got to say, they're pretty epic. So without further ado, check out how soon-to-be birthday girls Lady Gaga, Leighton Meester, Mischa Barton, Lea Michele, and Florence Welch developed their personal styles.
Leighton Meester Then:
Meester began to win us over with her sweet and girly style in 2005; two years before she stepped into Blair Waldorf's designer shoes. Back then, Meester opted for flirty dresses, micro prints, and dainty shoes.
And Now:
Today, the new mom has gone from PYT to runway-ready. Meester fused Blair's designer prowess with a sleek vibe, that suits her to a tee.
Mischa Barton Then:
Who wasn't obsessed with Mischa Barton's style, circa 2003? The going-out tops and boot-cut jeans? The A-line skirts and pointy flats? The array of mini designer handbags? We wanted them all (not to mention the contents of Marissa Cooper's closet).
And Now:
Barton has taken her mix-and-match skills to the next level. She still loves a knee-length skirt, but now she's pairing it with a boxy button down for a more grown-up vibe.
Leah Michele Then:
In 2009, this Glee cornered the market on feminine belted dresses. It was a young, fun look that defined Rachel Barry's type-A personality.
And Now:
Michele has come quite a long way since her high school sweetheart days. She's transformed into a body-con queen on the red carpet. Her sleek, fitted dresses today highlight her killer figure and she's now experimenting with more runway designers than ever,
Lady Gaga Then:
It's a shame Instagram wasn't created before 2008, when we first got to know Gaga and her experimental style. Oh, the regards that would have been! Gaga skyrocketed to the top charts and the top of fashion designer's dream lists, as she tied her hair into bows, covered her entire body in white paint and glued on pearls—the list goes on. In only a few short years, Gaga's fashion apotheosis made her a fashion legend in her time.
And Now:
While we don't see Gaga going quite as crazy as she once did with body makeup and riding in to award shows on makeshift Trojan horses—she's still got the sartorial edge. But now, in addition to that, she's also developed into a classic Hollywood screen siren, as she channeled Marilyn Monroe at this year's Golden Globe Awards. Come what may, Gaga always keeps us on the edge of our seat, and we love her for it.
Florence Welch Then:
Welch became a fashion darling in the blink of an eye, when she won the affection of Karl Lagerfeld and other designers, who took to her unique sounds and bohemian look. But as you can see here, the crimson-haired singer was still finding her way in terms of fashion as early as 2009. She played with the hippie look, but also lots of black, which you don't see her wearing very much of today.
And Now:
It's almost shocking to think of Welch in an LBD today, as her style sense has really defined her as an artist (it's pretty bohemian to break your foot while performing at Coachella—barefoot, no?). Just this month, Welch got a major fashion nod from designer-of-the-moment, Alessandro Michele, who named her the face of Gucci fine jewelry and watches. And oh, how she wears it so well.
