"The Walking Dead" season 6b is officially in full swing. Last week fans were hit with an action-packed somber — but hopeful — midseason premiere. This week, however, brought the fun back to the land of the miserable with "The Next World."
There are a lot of spoilers ahead!
Here are five of our favorite moments from episode 10:
5. The "Pop" Quest
That adorable exchange between Daryl and Denise was, well, adorable. Denise puts in a special request for soda on the "shopping list" for Rick and Daryl's run. Denise just wants to do something nice for Tara but feels bad asking for anything that's not vital.
What makes this moment so great is that Denise saved Carl's life, and you can see that Daryl wants to repay her in some small way. Later in the episode, Daryl even tells Rick what the "pop" is for, and Rick basically says Denise should get everything she wants.
Sadly, Denise gets zero "pop."
4. "My Friends Call Me Jesus"
Daryl and Rick run into some trouble on their run.
Our gun-totting duo hits the jackpot when they find a truck full of supplies. Rick and Daryl decide to continue the run in the truck and come back for their car later. If it all seems too good to be true, that's because it is.
At the next stop, a guy named Paul Monroe — whose "friends call [him] Jesus" — bumps into Rick, and he warns them that Walkers are on the way.
"There's more of them than us. Gotta stick together," Jesus tells them. That is such a great line. So often the people are fighting against each other. It's nice to be reminded that the Walkers are supposed to be the real common enemy.
That warm feeling is short lived. The guys let him go, and then they hear gunshots, only to discover that Jesus tricked them. The "gunshots" were firecrackers, and he drives away in the truck with the keys he pick pocketed from Rick.
3. Carl and Enid, The Rugrats
"Why are we coming out here?" Enid asks Carl while they are traipsing through the woods.
"Because we're kids, that's what they do." Carl answers.
Then the two children of the apocalypse sit in the woods eating snacks and reading comics.
The scenes with Enid and Carl are so great because for the first time they have the luxury of behaving like children despite the fact that neither seems all that enthused by the idea.
Now that they have found a safe home in Alexandria, some semblance of normalcy can seep in. It's interesting to see, even if it is not going to last long.
2. Karate Jesus
Daryl and Rick hunt down Jesus and their truck. They find Jesus pulled over at the side of the road and make a run at him. It looks easy enough until Jesus pulls out some karate moves on them.
Daryl and Rick are taken down a peg, but then they pull out their guns. "Do you even have any ammo?" Jesus asks.
Rick and Daryl raise their guns at the same time and shoot an oncoming walker, showcasing what an awesome team they make.
Our strong men tie Jesus up, take the truck and leave.
1. The Chase
Daryl and Rick are enjoying some Kit Kats in the truck and feeling very proud of themselves when they hear a bang.
They realize that Jesus in on the roof of the truck. Rick makes a shortstop to drive Jesus off the truck. Daryl jumps out to chase him. Then for the rest of the scene, Daryl and Rick are chasing Jesus around a farm.
In the process, the truck ends up in the river.
We knew getting supplies wouldn't be easy. This is "The Walking Dead" after all.
All in all, the buddy road trip theme of "The Next World" was a nice break from all the morbidity we get week in and week out. Daryl and Rick are a great duo, and who knew they could be so funny?
