"Outlander" star Caitriona Balfe recently sat down to discuss how much she loved Claire Fraser's costumes in the upcoming second season while her co-star Rosie Day revealed a few tidbits about her character Mary Hawkins.

Balfe told E!Online that her jaw dropped when she saw Claire's new wardrobe for the upcoming second season and noted that costume designer Terry Dresbach has "outdone herself" when it came to creating such luscious outfits.

"When I came back for season two and saw these luscious fabrics, these embroideries and colored silks, I thought 'Terry Dresbach has outdone herself,'" the actress explained. "What she did was really incredible."

However, Balfe added that even though her costumes are stunning, they are also incredibly restrictive.

"It's interesting because they're so incredibly restrictive," she said. "They are restrictive in a totally different way than the costumes I wore for season one. It is a two-fold dilemma: I think Claire was excited to finally have the opportunity to explore her femininity but wearing such restrictive outfits puts her in a different place as a woman."

The "Outlander" star also pointed out that while she loved wearing such beautiful gowns on set, she had to be very careful to not spill any food or drink on them.

"At first, I was excited to wear such pretty gowns," Balfe explained. "But I was not allowed to eat or drink anything while wearing them. I was disappointed because all the boys were hanging out and having fun while I had to stand by myself."

Meanwhile, Balfe's "Outlander" co-star Rosie Day also sat down with Female First to discuss her character Mary Hawkins.

In Diana Gabaldon's original novel, Claire meets a young Englishwoman named Mary while living in Paris and her new friend winds up becoming integral to the plot.

Day revealed that "Outlander" fans will have the opportunity to watch Mary develop from a shy teenager into a mature young woman who knows her own mind during the second season.

"From the moment Claire takes Mary under her wing, you see her develop from a very shy little girl into a woman over the course of the series," she explained. "It was a lovely role to play. The series is full of romance, war and torment. It's very dramatic but it is great."

Day added that she had fun working on the "Outlander" set and is grateful that she had the opportunity to play Mary Hawkins.

"I loved it," she said. "It has been such a great thing to be part of. The scripts were so great. I haven't seen any of it yet, so I am excited to watch the episodes."

The "Outlander" season two premiere will air on Saturday, April 9, at 9 p.m. ET on STARZ.
