"Black Sails" co-executive producers Jonathan E. Steinberg and Robert Levine recently sat down to discuss what is in store for the upcoming fourth season.
Inverse reported that Levine admitted that he would love to have Anne Bonny and Calico Jack Rackham meet the notorious Mary Read, but the latter will not be introduced because the show already has a large cast of characters.
The Smithsonian noted that the real Anne Bonny met Mary Read after Calico Jack took the latter prisoner. Mary, who had disguised herself as a man, admitted to Anne that she was actually a woman.
The two became friends and eventually Calico Jack found out that his new crewman was actually a woman.
When Calico Jack was eventually taken prisoner and executed, Anne and Mary escaped death because they were both pregnant.
"There are people we'd love to introduce, but their spots are taken by other characters," he explained. "Max and Eleanor are the two characters with the biggest footprint who are our constructs. The room is getting crowded."
Steinberg revealed that Long John Silver and Madi are going to have major arcs in the upcoming fourth season.
"Silver is explored in a way and a degree that is intense, even by season three standards," he said. "Luke Arnold has really been impressive. Madi is another character we knew was going to be more relevant, but becomes pretty relevant pretty quickly."
Steinberg also revealed that "Black Sails" season four is going to explore Long John Silver's evolving friendship with Captain Flint.
"The Flint and Silver relationship dynamic, that, by the end of season three, has now reached a new state," he said. "And Blackbeard and Long John Silver are the two most well-known pirates for a reason, so we'll get to see more of that."
Steinberg went on to say that even though Charles Vane was executed in the third season, his death is going to have repercussions that affect several of the main characters.
"You'll see that Charles Vane never leaves the story," he explained. "His ghost lingers over many people's stories."
