"Broad City" creators Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer sat down with Entertainment Weekly to dish on their upcoming — individual — projects, and how those new side gigs effect the pair's dynamic.
Glazer teamed up with fellow "Broad City" writers Paul W. Downs and Lucia Aniello to create a miniseries for Comedy Central titled "Time Travelling Bong." According to Den of Geek, Glazer and Downs are cousins who find a bong that can travel through time. The series follows them as they go on stoned adventures.
"We go to the Salem Witch Trials, obvs. We meet Michael Jackson," Glazer tells EW. "We go to paleo times, which in real life, I'm like, I would kill it in paleo times. I would rule my tribe. And then we go to the future. "
Seeing more projects from the minds of "Broad City" is a plus, but how will fans react to see Glazer and Jacobson apart? We have come to know them as a dynamic duo. Not only in real life, but in the show where they are the best of friends. Always attached at the hip and always getting into shenanigans together.
Jacobson explained that the two are used to doing things apart. They are each working on their own projects, however, this is the first time the fans will see them apart.
Jacobson told EW, "Things take so long to come to fruition. This is exciting because it's the first thing [after "Broad City"]. We work on more projects individually than we work on together, but the ones we do together are the 'most successful' of ours."
"It is scary. It's like, I kind of think about Abbi just in my head. Like, 'She and I were talking about this.' It's just uncertain, but it's exciting," Glazer said. " We always felt like any experience you have, you talk about it and you both experience it together in some way. So it feeds our partnership together."
Glazer continued, "It both strengthens the partnership and also f-ing ruins it. But I don't think audiences aren't ready because honestly I don't think enough people know us. I think people are like, Who? They're not going to be like, Wait, I know her... They're like, a brunette. A 30-year-old brunette."
Fans would disagree, "Broad City" has become a huge part of comedy television, and it has already been renewed for a fourth and fifth season — before its current third season even premiered.
We have a lot to look forward to from the "Broad City" duo — both individually and together.
"Time Traveling Bong" will premiere April 20 on Comedy Central.
In the meantime, you can catch "Broad City" on Wednesdays, 10 p.m. ET on Comedy Central.
