Australian actor Chris Hemsworth has starred in one blockbuster movie after another. But after he fulfills his commitment with Marvel for "Thor: Ragnarok," Hemsworth is considering starring in smaller, lesser-known films for a change.
Hemsworth referenced "Monster," the movie made by his co-star Charlize Theron of "The Huntsman: Winter's War" back in 2003, for which she won an Oscar award.
"The plan was to do something like that. I just couldn't find the right thing,'' he told The Daily Telegraph in Australia. "I definitely have a yearning for something contemporary and real and simpler. That would be the focus."
Hemsworth admitted that he is feeling a bit exhausted right now, "physically and emotionally, trying to ground the bigger films, the fantastic worlds."
This is why the actor is eager to take on a smaller yet more challenging role in order to showcase his acting skills. Hemsworth already did so in the 2013 biopic "Rush," directed by Ron Howard, which was about the life of British Formula One driver James Hunt.
Then he also embraced different roles in Michael Mann's crime drama "Blackhat" and another Howard film about Moby Dick titled "In the Heart of the Sea."
For now, however, Hemsworth still hasn't encountered his dream project and is still undecided regarding his next movie.
"Some things were close. It was like maybe ... But you are much better off not working than doing the wrong thing," he said.
Earlier, Hemsworth said that he considers his family more important than his career, and that is why he moved his wife and three kids away from Hollywood and back to Australia.
"I love what I do as an actor, but when you are surrounded by it constantly, it becomes a bit suffocating," he told ET Online. "It's nice to have conversations with people and be a part of a community that doesn't live and breathe that world."
"Thor: Ragnarok" will be released on Nov. 3, 2017. "The Huntsman: Winter's War" will make its way to cinemas on April 22.
