New spoilers for "Elementary" season four hinted that Sherlock Holmes is going to meet an economics professor with ties to his former flame and nemesis, Jamie Moriarty during the finale.
TVLine reported that Tony Curran is going to appear in the finale two episodes of "Elementary" season four as an economics professor named Joshua Vikner.
Sherlock Holmes is going to discover that Professor Vikner has a personal interest in his nemesis Jamie Moriarty and will have a large role in shaping the detective's future.
Carter Matt pointed out that Dormer may not physically appear in the season four finale, but it is possible that Professor Vikner's entrance in "Elementary" could set the stage for her character's return in the upcoming fifth season.
Aside from the introduction of Professor Vikner in the season finale, "Elementary" executive producer Rob Doherty recently hinted to TVLine that Dr. Joan Watson's half-sister could return in season five.
Previously, "Elementary" revealed that Dr. Watson has a half-sister named Lin and the two met in season four.
"We won't see Lin again this season," Doherty explained. "That mostly has to do with where we were in the season when we finally developed the two Lin episodes. Once we get past those, we're really into our end run that wraps up the season, and that's Morland-centric. So it's not that we didn't want to see Lin; she just didn't quite fit into the story. But we'd love to see her again next year."
The "Elementary" showrunner also revealed that there is a chance Dr. Watson could eventually reunite with her biological father in a future episode.
"It's nothing we've talked about for this season, but it has come up," he said. "It is such a natural progression. One of us on the staff has to have the right pitch for who he is and where he is now."
"Elementary" is currently airing on Sunday nights at 10 p.m. ET on CBS.
