"Girls Meets World" ended its second season with Riley (Rowan Blanchard), Maya (Sabrina Carpenter) and Lucas (Peyton Meyer) still caught up in a love triangle. Creator and showrunner Michael Jacobs told The Wrap that storyline is not getting resolved soon.

Riley and her friends have been maturing since "Girl Meets World" premiered. Now, they are all headed into high school and a lot is about to change. We have a love triangle to deal with, first, in addition to all the new issues that arise in a high school setting.

Jacobs said that the love triangle won't the primary focus of the season, but rather an undertone that is sometimes muted by other things going on.

"[The love triangle] will span probably a third to half of season 3. Not as [a] primary focus, but always an underlying thing in existence for the characters," Jacobs said. "And then when we bring it up to primary, we will resolve it in a way that shows an answer to a much bigger question, which is, how do young people at this age perceive relationships? What is the value of them? And what are our friendships, really?"

Jacobs went on to make the larger point that, "If the audience perceives that what we're talking about is 14-year olds in love, they have missed what we're doing entirely. All of this will explain itself as part of the season. "

What else will appear in the third season?Josh (Uriah Shelton) will be back. Fans will remember that Josh is Cory's younger brother who Maya happened to have a huge crush on.

Shelton was in a terrible accident and had to be written out of the second season. However, Jacobs assured The Wrap that he will return in season 3. Jacobs said that Josh, because of his age, will play an interesting part in the coming season.

"They'll get to find an entrance, a mirror of what the next steps for them are going to be. They move into high school, and let me tell you high school will not be an easy adjustment for this cast. And Josh will move into college," Jacobs told The Wrap. "That will be what's next for our girls. They'll be able to look forward and Josh will show them the next step of evolution."

Moving into high school is a big deal. The situations that arise are much different than those of middle school hallways. According to Jacobs, that will be very apparent. There is definitely going to be a shift in the tone.

Speaking of those heavier topics, The Wrap asked Jacobs how the show will handle issues like sex or drinking. Jacobs made the point to say that the show is on the Disney Channel which means that there are younger kids watching and though our characters are growing older, it is important to handle the mature subject matter in a way that will coincide with the network.

So how will the show handle having to appeal to a younger audience, an older audience and the network? Jacobs said, "What we will do is honestly show you within the parameters of what I think and what the staff thinks is correct. Lovely episodes, which will touch on all the same subjects that 'Boy Meets World' did."

"Girl Meets World" season 3 will start with a two-parter. It is set to premiere in Spring 2016.
