"Outlander" star Sam Heughan recently sat down to discuss his character Jamie Fraser's struggle with his post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and the rising tension in his marriage.

Previously on "Outlander," Jamie was taken prisoner by Black Jack Randall and tortured both mentally and physically.

The first two episodes of "Outlander" season two revealed that Jamie is suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder and often has nightmares where he re-lives being raped by Black Jack.

Heughan revealed to the Wall Street Journal that Jamie is still haunted by his PTSD and his trauma is going to drive a wedge into his relationship with his wife Claire.

"Jamie is still plagued by Black Jack and he's not dealing with is very well," he explained. "We don't focus on Jamie every episode, but it is there, this disease that is in his mind. He's trying not to think about it. He throws himself into the mission. He's working day and night, and he's losing contact with Claire. Their relationship becomes less engaged, and ultimately it will implode."

The "Outlander" star added that Claire is struggling to help Jamie heal and their relationship is somewhat mended as they bond over their unborn child.

"Claire goes through many ways to help him overcome his trauma," Heughan said. "But what does seem to bond them is the unborn child. It seems to be the one thing that they do connect over and it is what makes them both feel close to each other again."

Aside from Heughan discussing Jamie's struggle with post-traumatic stress disorder, his co-star Caitriona Balfe shared a few interesting tidbits about what it was like to film the scenes at the French court while wearing Claire's beautiful red dress.

In the second episode of "Outlander" season two, the Frasers go to court and Claire wears a gorgeous red gown that was designed to attract attention.

Balfe told Access Hollywood that she thought the red dress was a "showstopper" but it also made filming rather difficult due to its width.

"It's a showstopper and it is a moment that the fans were all excited to see," she said. "However, trying to get Heughan and I in the same show while I was wearing the dress was a very complicated thing. They would tell us to stand beside one another, we'd reply that we were, and Sam would be at the other side of the room practically."

"Outlander" season two is currently airing on Saturday nights at 9 p.m. on STARZ.
