"Shadowhunters" executive producer Michael Reisz has opened up about Alec's (Matthew Daddario) coming out in season 1 and what fans can expect from the character and his relationship with Magnus (Harry Shum Jr.) in the next season.
In an interview with Paste Magazine, Reisz said: "What [author] Cassie [Clare] does in the books is absolutely beautiful. You have Clary, and her perspective is the main thrust of the books, so the time spent with Alec and the time spent with Magnus was not as much as we were offered the opportunity to do in the television series."
The producer continued: "With that ability to explore nuances of their relationship, having Alec come out at the end of season one is truly just a beginning for both Alec and Magnus, in terms of where they both individually will go, and where they will go potentially as a couple."
Delving more into what's in store for the couple, it will not be a walk in the park for the two. Alec and Magnus will face challenges when the show returns, even though some of them might only be a consequence of other hurdles.

"When we see Camille again, it won't be as a threat to Alec and Magnus' relationship," showrunner Ed Decter told TVLine. "It'll be more as a threat to Raphael and other vampires, their whole hierarchy."
Apart from the love story between Alec and Magnus, whose pairing fans are fond of calling "Malec," other characters' arcs should also keep fans on their toes.
"Some characters we've met go through giant transformation," Decter said. "Simon's girlfriend Maureen has a lot in store for her, and there's a lot in store for Jocelyn and Luke. There will be new characters we meet as well, including the Seelie Queen. We'll start building into each of the realms in a different way."
"Shadowhunters" season 2 has not been given an air date.
