New spoilers for "The Flash" season two hinted that the real Jay Garrick is the mysterious man in the iron mask that is being held captive by Hunter Zolomon, who goes by the name of Zoom.
Previously on "The Flash," Barry Allen discovered that Hunter Zolomon's father was named Jay Garrick and he murdered his wife right in front of their son.
Hunter was shipped off to an Earth-2 orphanage and grew up to be a notorious serial killer. While he was undergoing electroshock therapy, the particle accelerator of that world exploded and Hunter became a speedster.
Hunter admitted that he took the alias of Jay Garrick in order to give the people of Earth-2 hope so he could ultimately take it away. The evil speedster also stole Barry's powers and kidnapped Caitlin by taking her with him when he returned to Earth-2.
Comic Book reported that many fans of the heroic Jay Garrick who appeared in the original DC Comics are furious that their beloved character was reinvented as a villain and tweeted their displeasure to "The Flash" co-executive producer Greg Berlanti.
However, Berlanti wrote on Twitter that "he loves Jay Garrick and would never make him a bad guy." He urged fans to keep watching because the show is not reinventing the character in order to turn Jay into a villain.
This has led to speculation that suggested the real Jay Garrick is the man in the iron mask who is currently being held captive by Zoom.
If the man in the iron mask is the real Jay Garrick, it is possible that he is from another Earth or Hunter lied about his father killing his mother when he was convicted of murder.
"The Flash" is currently airing on Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. ET on the CW.
