"The Flash" star Teddy Sears recently sat down to discuss his character Hunter Zolomon (Zoom), who masqueraded as the Earth-2 Flash Jay Garrick earlier in the season.
Entertainment Weekly reported that Teddy Sears admitted "The Flash" season two, episode 18 is going to explore Hunter Zolomon's backstory.
Previously, "The Flash" revealed that Jay Garrick, who was considered to be a hero on Earth-2, was actually the evil speedster known as Zoom and his real name was Hunter Zolomon.
Sears hinted that episode 18 is going to show Hunter's origin story and his tragic past.
"What's really exciting about going and looking into Hunter Zolomon's origin story is that it mirrors Barry Allen's origin story," the actor said. "We're going to see what happened to Hunter as a child look almost exactly like what happened to Barry when he was a child. One man went one way and one man went the other."
Sears pointed out that even though Hunter is a villain, there is a scene in "Versus Zoom" that will allow the audience to gain some understanding of why he became evil in the first place.
"Zoom is 100 percent sociopathic and obsessed," he explained. "He's very much a megalomaniac and someone who is obsessed with his own power. However, there was a really wonderful scene that I did with Grant where the audience has the opportunity to experience an understanding or pathos for Hunter."
Sears added that even though Hunter enjoyed toying with Barry and the other members of S.T.A.R. Labs, the speedster truly loved Caitlin.
"While Hunter is on Earth-1 to steal Barry's speed, he began to enjoy the game and got a great kick out of the chase," he said. "While there were games being played on the other members of S.T.A.R. Labs, what he felt for Caitlin was the real deal. That adds a really interesting dynamic to this moving forward. Hunter is essentially one gigantic liar who has played them all, but he never played her. There are real feelings there."
Aside from Sears discussing Hunter's past, the CW released a new promotional image that showed Barry Allen training with the tachyon device in the hopes of defeating Zoom.
Carter Matt wrote that the CW released the comic on the show's official Tumblr page and it hinted "Versus Zoom" is going to have a scene where Barry tests out the tachyon device to see if it will help him run faster.
"The Flash" season two is currently airing on Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. ET on the CW.
