"The Vampire Diaries" star Ian Somerhalder recently sat down to clarify previous statements he made at the Walker Stalker convention in Nashville, Tennessee that hinted his show would end after season eight.
TVLine noted at last weekend's Walker Stalker convention in Nashville, Somerhalder admitted that "The Vampire Diaries" season eight was going to be the final season.
However, the CW revealed that they have not made any decisions about whether or not to cancel the show after season eight.
Entertainment Weekly reported that Somerhalder took to Twitter on Thursday in order to clarify his previous statement at the Walker Stalker convention.
"Hey all, so last weekend I talked to an audience at a Q&A about the end of #TVD and how excited I was to make what I believe is my last year be as great as possible," he wrote. "Somehow, in my infinite wisdom and end-of-season foggy brain, I managed to make it sound like the show was coming to an end. Cut-to the press running stories that the show would be done after season eight. The thing is, the people who make that decision (the CW and WB) haven't made it yet! So let's take things one step at a time: season seven wrap, vacation, lots of sleep, let the writers get started on season eight and then we'll see where we go from there."
TV Guide pointed out that Somerhalder's comments revealed that he is unsure of when "The Vampire Diaries" will end and added that it appeared as if the actor is considering leaving the show after the eighth season.
If Somerhalder winds up leaving the show after season eight, he would not be the first cast member to do so.
Previously, Nina Dobrev left the show after season six and Kat Graham recently announced that she is going to leave "The Vampire Diaries" once season eight is done."
"The Vampire Diaries" season seven is currently airing on Friday nights at 8 p.m. on the CW.
