This Girl's Face Mask Fail Is So Funny It Hurts (a Lot)

Beauty is pain—and sometimes it's really funny pain.

Maryland teen, Cachet Raynor, recently shared a cringeworthy, obscenity-filled video of her failed face mask experiment with her Twitter followers that will make you appreciate your blackheads. (Or at the very least make you thankful that you're more gentle with them.) While her experience looked downright painful, her shrieks and groans are so hilarious it hurts. And clearly the Internet agrees—her video has been retweeted 55,000 times and liked 85,000 times in less than 24 hours.

Raynor tells The Daily Dot that she used a Pilaten Suction Black Mask after ordering it online. She says she followed the directions and left the charcoal mask on for one hour, avoiding her lips and eyebrows, but as you can see, things didn't exactly go according to plan.

Watch as your biggest beauty nightmare—up there next to getting a round-brush stuck in your hair—unfolds right before your eyes.

After a little digging, we found that the product's website does instruct users to leave the mask on for 15 to 30 minutes (which is about the max time for a deep-cleansing mask), so Raynor's pain is likely due to leaving it on for too long. The product's received mostly positive reviews on Amazon, but several users do note how uncomfortable the experience can be—especially if you layer too much of the stuff on. And a couple of them note that it can grab on to the baby hairs on your face.

"This mask works excellently, however it is truly the most painful thing to peel off your face. Second to cement, that is,"one person wrote.

But the question still remains, what do you do when you've found yourself in a—literal—sticky situation like this? According to Dr. Joshua Zeichner, a New York-based dermatologist, "most masks can be gently washed away using cool water and a gentle skin cleanser. So don't panic if something seems stuck.

Dr. Zeichner also advises on only using masks "intermittently, not daily" and to start out with no more than once a week to see how your skin handles it. He adds that those with sensitive skin should be especially cautious: "Masks, by their very nature, have concentrated ingredients, so leaving them on your skin may cause a reaction if you are sensitive." And, of course, if you feel burning or stinging, it's not a good sign, and you should remove the mask immediately.

Despite the experience, Raynor tells The Daily Dot she would still use the mask again because she "liked the results."

Considering how much our editors here love the Boscia Luminizing Black Mask ($34, sephora.com), which based on the video and ingredients seems similar, is it wrong that we want to give this a go? Her skin does look awfully soft after her whole ordeal was all said and done.

We've also reached out to Pilaten for comment and will update this post when we've heard back.
