The debate will be led by chair of the work and pensions select committee Frank Field, who said it would be the first chance the entire House of Commons has had to “pass judgement” on the treatment of BHS workers and pensioners.
As Drapers previously reported, Green is facing increasing pressure to address the pension deficit after the demise of BHS hit the headlines again earlier this week. BBC’s Panorama revealed Arcadia paid up to £2m to retain around 200 BHS head office employees while administrators looked for a buyer.
A statement from former BHS chief executive Darren Topp said the money was paid to stop resignations and keep the business trading.
