Many women in America watched in horror as a 2005 video surfaced where Donald Trump bragged about being able to grope and kiss women because of his celebrity status. But two women were apparently particularly aghast, and decided to finally speak out about Trump actually doing the things to them that he'd subsequently brushed off as simply "locker room talk." The women, 74-year-old Jessica Leeds and Rachel Crooks, spoke to The New York Times in detail about the moments when they were "touched inappropriately" by Donald Trump.
In an eerie twist, one of the incidents actually happened the same year Trump's now-infamous interview with Billy Bush occurred. When Crooks was waiting for an elevator in Trump Tower one morning to head to her job as a receptionist for the real estate investment and development firm called Bayrock Group, Trump allegedly cornered her. He “kissed me directly on the mouth,” she told The New York Times. “I was so upset that he thought I was so insignificant that he could do that,” she said. So when the video surfaced, Crooks was actually comforted it by it. “I was upset that it had happened to other people, but also took some comfort in knowing I wasn’t the only one he had done it to,” she said. “People should know...this behavior is pervasive and it is real.”
Trump's record of sexual assault goes back even further, according to Jessica Leeds, a 74-year-old who was 38 at the time she encountered the Republican presidential hopeful on a plan. Leeds found herself sitting next to Trump when she was unexpectedly upgraded to first class. After they ate their meal, 45 minutes into the flight, Leeds recalls Trump lifting the armrest and groping her. “He was like an octopus,” she said. “His hands were everywhere. It was an assault.” At the time, Leeds' next step was to retreat back to the main cabin; she says she didn't speak up because, in that era, women were weren't encouraged to assert themselves in those situations—the cultural attitude didn't preach that it wasn't okay for anyone to touch you unless you said so; that women have complete control over their bodies and consent is non-optional. “We accepted it for years,” Leeds said of similar unwanted advances. “We were taught it was our fault.”
Trump has formally denied that he had ever acted on his words when pressed during Sunday night's presidential debate. "No, I have not," he said.
When questioned by The New York Times for its report, the Republican nominee continued to deny any wrongdoing. "None of this ever took place," he told the reporter before calling her "a disgusting human being."
