"Mr. Robot" star Christian Slater has opened up about how the show mirrors real-life events.
In an interview with "Live! With Kelly and Michael," the Golden Globe-winning actor said: "That was definitely one of the wild things while we were making the show. We'd shoot a scene and then the next day we'd read something in the paper that just absolutely mirrored what we were doing in the show."
The actor added: "It was insane that that was happening."
Carly Chaikin, who plays Darlene on the show, also commented on how the show reflects some real-life events.
"It was so crazy," the actress told The Spin Off about the show mirroring the tragic shooting of a WBDJ Virginia reporter, adding, "We always joked that it's like [series creator Sam Esmail] could predict the future and needs to write an episode where there was world peace. It was so insane that that happened on the same day, and obviously tragic, and I respect their decision to push it so much."

Apart from the story arcs that share similarities with real-life events, the show also touches heavily on the issue of cyber security.
Slater said that he understands how most people use the Internet for enrichment, but he emphasized the idea that some people rely on the banks of information online as a "huge weapon."
"You have to protect yourself and stay on top of it because these guys are very, very sneaky," the actor said, "although I'm a huge fan of all of them."
Chaikin has similar sentiments when it comes to protecting one's information online.
"I'm just so hyper-aware of all the possibilities that could happen," the actress said. "I never used to think about those things before, but now I never leave my computer open if I'm not on it. When people are like, 'Oh, my password is password1, I'm like, you need to change that right now."
