"Pretty Little Liars" season 6 is shaping up to be the show's darkest season yet.
The season returned on air with a big twist: "A" has been murdered. But the identity of the killer is not the only mystery that needs to be solved.
In the show's latest episode, it has been confirmed that Emily (Shay Mitchell) is undergoing treatment for an undisclosed sickness. In one of the scenes in the previous episode, Emily converses with the new lady running Ezra's (Ian Harding) cafe about surviving cancer. This prompts one to assume that Emily might have cancer.
But some fans have a different idea of what Emily might be enduring. A fan suggested on a forum that Emily might have HIV. While one pointed out that the medicine that spilled out of Emily's bag are not the same as those that people with HIV use, another said that it could just be the show giving their own take on a real-life scenario.
Another fan, however, said that the show might not be bold enough to tackle such a sensitive issue.

The question that remains now is: Why is Emily lying about her sickness?
Could Emily's sickness be part of a bigger secret? Series creator Marlene King has teased that Emily has two big secrets this season and one of them supports the other. Fans won't have to wait long to find the answers, though, as things will unravel in the show's upcoming episode.
Emily's revelation will be featured on the show's 13th episode titled "The Gloves Are On." Below is the episode's synopsis.
"Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer find themselves back in familiar territory with Rosewood P.D., knocking at their doors looking for answers and their actions now affecting the loved ones around them. With her mother's job on the line, Hanna tries to come up with an alibi that could save all four of them with the help of her old high school friend, Lucas. Meanwhile, Emily comes clean about the last five years, and Aria goes the extra mile to keep Ezra's second book in play with her boss."
