New spoilers for "The Flash" midseason premiere "Potential Energy" reveals Barry Allen will go up against a metahuman named the Turtle, who has the power to slow down time.
The CW recently released the official synopsis and a few promotional images from the midseason premiere, reports Comic Book.
In "Potential Energy," Barry considers telling Patty that he is the Flash while Iris and Detective West try to bond with Wally.
However, Barry's life becomes complicated when the team is forced to track down a metahuman named the Turtle, who has the power to control time.
The new promotional images from "The Flash" hint that the midseason premiere will focus heavily on Wally.
Judging by some of the pictures, it appears as if Wally sneaks out in order to participate in a drag race.
However, his father realizes that his son isn't in the house and tracks him down at the race site. The two appear to have a touching heart-to-heart conversation that will hopefully allow father and son to grow closer.
Other photos hint that Barry and Patty are at some sort of gala when the Turtle attacks. It will be interesting to see if Barry goes through with his plan to reveal his secret identity to his girlfriend or if he will get cold feet.
Aside from the new promotional photos and official synopsis, the CW also announced that "Battlestar Galactica" alum Aaron Douglas is going to be playing the role of the Turtle in the midseason premiere, reports Entertainment Weekly.
"The Flash" executive producer Andrew Kreisberg revealed that Cisco has been hunting this metahuman for a long time.
"In a surprisingly funny twist, Cisco has actually been hunting the Turtle the entire series," he explained. "To Barry's great surprise, everybody knows about Cisco's hunt-he's the only one who didn't know about it. We love the idea that there was a villain out there that they knew about, but haven't bothered to tell the audience about yet."
"The Flash" showrunner added that the reason why Barry didn't know about Cisco's hunt for the Turtle is due to the fact that he has been preoccupied with defeating Zoom.
"All Barry wants to do is get faster, because if he can get faster, he can take on Zoom," Kreisberg said. "He's going up against a villain who is literally slowing him down. This is one of our best episodes coming back that we've ever done. It feels big and emotional."
In the original comics, the 1940s-era villain known as the Turtle often tried to trick Jay Garrick into running slowly. His successor, who called himself Turtle Man, created devices to slow Barry Allen down.
"The Flash" midseason premiere "Potential Energy" will air on Tuesday, Jan. 19, at 8p.m. on the CW.
