"Carol" star Cate Blanchett is set to join the cast of the third "Thor" film, which has already been titled "Ragnarok."
Marvel has been trying its best to keep her mysterious role under wraps for now, but her co-star Mark Ruffalo might have just let slip that she will be playing their villain.
While talking to Entertainment Tonight about Blanchett's involvement in the film, Ruffalo gushed: "I'm so thrilled. I saw her at the Governors' banquet here and heard that maybe she was circling, they were talking to her about the part, so I ran up to her and I was like, 'Please, please, please make this work!'"
"She's just one of the best, and to have her play a baddie is going to be really exciting," Ruffalo added.
The next question that needs to be answered then is: "which villain?"
There are so many "baddies" that Thor and Hulk can come face-to-face with that the possibilities are endless, but Geek suspects that Blanchett will be portraying Hela, the ruler of Hel and the realm of Niflheim. She is the Asgardian Goddess of Death who can control the dead and boasts super strength and immunity to all diseases.
She will reportedly work with Thor's mischievous half brother, Loki. When Thor finally confronts Hela, she will banish him from Asgard and destroy his mighty weapon Mjolnir.
Meanwhile, Marvel head Kevin Feige earlier said that "Thor: Ragnarok" will not take Thor back to Earth so it is doubtful that Chris Hemsworth's character will seek solace in the arms of Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) while he is in exile.
"The film takes place within the cosmos primarily which is to say, frankly, very little Earth," Feige told Empire.
"Thor: Ragnarok" will make its way to cinemas on Nov. 3, 2017.
