"Bitten" star Laura Vandervoort has opened up about the challenges she has faced while playing the role of Elena in the Syfy series adapted from Kelley Armstrong's "Women of the Otherworld" book series.
"I'm the hardest on myself," the actress told Stuff New Zealand. "No one's as hard on me as I am. And I get nervous or stressed out or [anxious] before a scene or before stunts."
Vandervoort continued: This time I just told myself to suck it up and go to work. Once you get through it and you realize not only did you get through it, but the producers and the writers and directors are all thrilled, that's a great feeling."

Prior to landing the job, the actress contemplated quitting the industry.
"I think that happens to all of us in the industry," she said. "There are ebbs and flows in the industry and also transitioning from child actor into an adult actor was a challenge, having the casting people see me in a different way. And there were periods when you'd go without work for a year and you start to question what you're doing."
Meanwhile, Vandervoort also spoke about the joys of being part of the series.

In an interview with Toronto Sun, the actress said: "Being part of 'Bitten' has given me confidence to try new things. And I find that I'm more comfortable with myself physically."
Vandervoort added: "When you're growing up, you're insecure. But I feel like I finally understand who I am and what I want to do with my career, if that makes any sense ... 'Bitten' really has prepared me for walking onto a set and feeling like I know what I'm doing."
