Malia and Sasha Obama attended their first White House State Dinner last night, held in honor of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. It's the first formal event for the sisters, and, from what we could spot of their outfits, they didn't disappoint.
Malia looked elegant in a champagne colored Naeem Khan gown with a sweetheart neckline and restrained beading across the bust. It looks like she skipped jewelry too, a styling choice we love when you consider that she's still just 17—a heavy necklace or chandelier earrings might have pushed the look into an overly formal territory, while without it stays fresh and age-appropriate.
Little sister Sasha went the trendier, less classic route, also choosing Naeem Khan a dress with rich red embroidery and a splash of white lace. Her accessory game proved she's a teen-in-the-know, taking a page from Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid's style playbook with a skinny black choker.
The pair have really been impressing us with their style over the last year or so (which shouldn't be a surprise when you remember their age—we remember starting to care more about fashion around 14 or 15 too). Over Thanksgiving weekend this fall we had two opportunities to love what they wore, including the casual outfits they picked to shop with the President and cute layered looks to pardon the national turkey. Factor in these new ensembles, and we're ready to confirm it: We've got years and years of stylish Obama-girl dressing to watch.
