ABC recently announced that if "Castle" returns for a ninth season, Stana Katic is not going to be reprising her role of Rick Castle's wife Kate Beckett.
Deadline reported that the network allegedly is eyeing a shortned ninth season and told Katic as well as her co-star Tamala Jones that they would not return if "Castle" is renwed.

3. The Heart Of The Show Has Always Been Rick And Kate's Relationship
Fans are furious because the heart of "Castle" has always revolved around Rick's relationship with Kate. She was his muse for the "Nikki Heat" novels and it makes no sense to fundamentally change the show.
It would be far better to end season eight on a happy note and have a spinoff series with minor characters such as Javier Esposito or Kelly Ryan.
2. Fans Are Sick Of Lead Actresses Being Killed Off
The Hollywood Reporter pointed out that if Katic is not going to return for season nine, there's a good chance her character will be killed in the finale.
This possibility has fans riled up before the season eight finale has even aired because they are sick of lead actresses being killed just to make a show more dramatic.
From Commander Lexa being cruelly killed by a stray bullet meant for her lover Clarke Griffin to the outcry over the death of Laurel Lance (the Black Canary) on "Arrow," fans have taken to social media in order to protest the misogynistic treatment of female characters who seem to be constantly dying in order to add more drama to a television series.
1. The Storylines Would Be Boring
If "Castle" continues without Katic, the storylines would be boring. Fans tuned in to watch Rick and Kate solve crimes, not watch a private investigator work on cases by himself.
Without Kate as a counterpoint for Rick's clownish behavior, the storylines in season nine would be boring and many fans might stop watching the show.
"Castle" season eight is currently airing on Monday nights at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
