"Girls" co-executive producer Jenni Konner recently sat down to discuss the upcoming sixth season and revealed whether or not Hannah Horvath is going to meet a new love interest.
In the "Girls" season five finale, Hannah finally found out that her friend Jessi Johansson was dating her ex-boyfriend Adam Sackler.
Despite her heartbreak, Hannah made the decision to return to storytelling for the first time since she left the Iowa Writer's Worshop in the fourth season.
The "Girls" finale also revealed that Jessi and Adam had a huge fight while Marnie attempted to figure out how she was going to continue her romantic relationship with Ray while working with her ex-husband Desi.
Konner told The Hollywood Reporter that "Girls" season six is going to focus on Hannah realizing that she does not need a significant other in her life in order to be happy.
"I think she kind of got broken by everybody in the season five finale and I think the beginning of her rise was breaking up with Fran," she said. "She realized that she didn't need to be with a guy who didn't make her happy. I think there can always be someone new, but I think it is a slightly less important part of her world now."
The "Girls" showrunner added that Marnie is going to have to learn how to stop running from relationship to relationship in the upcoming sixth season.
"I think Marnie's really floundering," Konner explained. "I think she is serious about her relationship with Ray. However, I think Marnie needs to learn she can't keep running from one relationship to the next."
Konner noted that "Girls" season six is also going to focus on Shoshanna's struggles with getting used to living in New York City after spending some time in Japan.
"I think Shoshanna had an amazing time in Japan but she thought that she had solved all of her problems geographically, and that didn't quite work for her," she said. "I think she's been a little flattened by her latest experiences, and it will be interesting to see her re-integrate into New York."
The "Girls" showrunner pointed out that there is also a good chance certain figures from the main characters' pasts will appear in season six, much like how Charlie and Tally appeared in the fifth season to advise Marnie and Hannah.
While Konner did not mention a premiere date for "Girls" season six, Carter Matt speculated that HBO is going to air the final season alongside "Vinyl" sometime in early 2017.
