New spoilers for "Penny Dreadful" season three hinted that there could be a love triangle between Vanessa Ives, Ethan Chandler and the zoologist Dr. Alexander Sweet.
Previously on "Penny Dreadful," Vanessa managed to defeat the witches that wanted her to become the bride of the fallen angel Lucifer and discovered that her love interest Ethan Chandler was a werewolf.
Even though Vanessa begged Ethan to stay with her in London, he declined her offer and turned himself into the authorities, as he was the one who had killed the men in the Mariner's Inn massacre.
Instead of being executed, Ethan was then sent back to America in order to face his father, Mr. Talbot.
IGN posted an exclusive clip from the "Penny Dreadful" season three premiere, which is titled "The Day Tennyson Died."
The preview showed Christian Camargo's character Dr. Alexander Sweet flirting with Vanessa as they discussed the ominous nature of the "death stalker" scorpion.
Even though Dr. Sweet appeared to be a normal zoologist in the clip, there is a good chance that he could either be Lucifer or Dracula in disguise.
"Penny Dreadful" season two revealed that Vanessa is the reincarnation of the ancient Egyptian goddess Amunet and Lucifer is the brother of the vampire known as Count Dracula.
The two fallen angels are destined to fight over Vanessa, because if one of them manages to corrupt her soul, Amunet will be unleashed and the goddess will start an apocalypse that will kill mankind.
According to an ancient text, the only person who can save Vanessa from Lucifer and Count Dracula is the mysterious Wolf of God.
Given the fact that Ethan is a werewolf and is in love with Vanessa, there is a good chance that he is the Wolf of God mentioned in the ancient text.
Aside from the new clip, Showtime released a new promotional poster on Twitter that showed two monstrous hands reaching out for one another.
If Dr. Sweet is Lucifer or Dracula in disguise, perhaps this poster is a sign that he is going to try to corrupt Vanessa now that Ethan is safely imprisoned in America.
The "Penny Dreadful" season three premiere will air on Sunday, May 1, at 10 p.m. on Showtime.
