Mayte Garcia has broken her silence following the death of her ex-husband Prince on Thursday, April 21.
The "Hollywood Exes" star released a statement to People magazine saying, "I can't even think of the words of what I'm feeling. This man was my everything, we had a family. I am beyond deeply saddened and devastated."
Garcia and Prince first met back in 1990 when she was hired on as a backup dancer on one of his tours. Not long Prince produced an album for her, and even used her as the inspiration behind his own hit song "The Most Beautiful Girl in the World."
The couple wed in 1996 in Minneapolis, and later that same year Garcia gave birth to their first child together, a son named Gregory Nelson. Unfortunately, just one week after their baby's birth, Gregory passed away due to Pfeiffer syndrome, a genetic disorder that affects the bones in the skull, hands and feet.
In her statement, Garcia went on to honor her late ex-husband as well as their son.
"I loved him them, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now," she continued.
The couple officially divorced in 2000. However, they seemed to maintain a cordial relationship.
During her time on the VH1 reality show, Garcia only ever had kind words to say about her ex-husband, and often blamed their divorce on the after-effects of their son's death.
"I believe a child dying between a couple either makes you stronger or it doesn't. For me, it was very, very hard to move forward and for us as a couple I think it probably broke us," Garcia said during a former interview with VH1.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all the fans, friends and family members affected by Prince's death, especially his ex-wife.
