"The Night Manager" star Hugh Laurie recently sat down to discuss what it was like to play "the worst man in the world" while his co-star Olivia Colman revealed a few interesting tidbits about her character Angela Burr in a new interview.

Laurie admitted to The Hollywood Reporter that he is a big fan of the author John Le Carre and he said was desperate to become involved in the project.

"Honestly, I would have played any role," he said. "If they asked me to play a chef in the kitchen, I'd have done it. I'd have done the catering on the film set, actually. I just wanted to be involved. I thought it was such a great story and was so happy that it was finally coming to the screen."

"The Night Manager" star pointed out that he tried to option the book, but by that time, Sydney Pollack had already taken it.

"I had worshipped Le Carre all throughout my teenage years and I read all of his novels of the Cold War many times," Laurie said. "I actually called my agent and asked if it would be possible to option. I'd never done that before so I didn't know what optioning a book actually required. But I was too late, it had already been snapped up by Sydney Pollack."

Laurie added that he enjoyed playing the role of Richard Roper, who has been described in the series as being "the worst man in the world" and felt that the miniseries explored important subjects.

"I also thought that the subjects of high finance and high commerce were important subjects," the actor explained. "This was a worthy target for Le Carre to sink his teeth into, and he does."

Meanwhile, Laurie's co-star Olivia Colman, who plays Angela Burr in "The Night Manager," recently sat down to discuss her role in AMC's miniseries.

In "The Night Manager," Angela is trying to fight bueracracy and corrupt officials in her government. This leads her to recruiting Tom Hiddleston's character Jonathan Pine to become a spy and take down Richard Roper, who is an infamous international arms dealer.

Colman told Gold Derby that it was a nice change to play a character that is "a bit angry and who is on the side of the angels."

"The Night Manager" star also admitted that the miniseries opened her eyes to the corruption in modern society.

"It's frustrating to know that corruption happens and there are people willing to turn a blind eye for money," Colman said. "It happens in all sorts of places."

Finally, Colman revealed that her character Angela is the type of woman she would like to be.

"Angela is unique, partly because she was a man in the original novel," the actress explained. "They've done a very good thing and made turned the character from male to female for the miniseries. She's a remarkable person and sort of the woman I would like to be. She's bright and is a no-nonsense kind of person."

"The Night Manager" is currently airing on Tuesday nights at 10 p.m. ET on AMC.
