"X-Men: Apocalypse" director Bryan Singer has long been insisting that Hugh Jackman's Wolverine will not be making a cameo in the upcoming "X-Men" film, but if the latest trailer proves anything, it's that the mutant and his metal claws were a significant help in defeating some bad guys.
"Make of that what you want," Singer told Empire. "I will say, it's not simple. There's something more pivotal that occurs with that. It hints to a sequence that again fits within the canon of all six movies, and the birth of a new direction. It's not insignificant, nor is it simply just a throw-in."
When asked if moviegoers will find out to whom the claws seen on the trailer belong to, Singer simply answered, "It's not the only shot you're gonna see, let's put it that way."
Another bombshell revealed by the third trailer is that Magneto (Michael Fassbender) is really the father of Quicksilver (Evan Peters). Singer was criticised for spoiling that tidbit earlier on, but the director said that "it wasn't meant to be a big deal."
"It's not like Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader. We know the deal. The question is, who else knows it and what does it mean and how does it inform how Quicksilver has evolved as a character? It's part of his journey right to the end of this film," he said.
As for the next "X-Men" film, Singer said that he isn't ready to direct one yet.
"Abandoning the franchise is not something I think about. But I could not roll into another X-Men movie tomorrow. And I hope not to. I hope to take a break," he told Comic Book Movie.
Singer's next project is "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" for Fox, while there's a "Wolverine 3" movie scheduled for 2017.
"X-Men: Apocalypse" will hit cinemas on May 27.
