Even though Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed have been happily married for over a year already, there are many die-hard "The Vampire Diaries" fans who are sincerely hoping that Somerhalder would leave Reed and rekindle his romance with former flame Nina Dobrev, who used to star in the vampire show as Elena Gilbert.
Somerhalder and Dobrev dated for three years before splitting, and neither of them have revealed why they broke up. Whatever the case, "Nian" shippers are still relentlessly pushing for the couple to get back together.
However, there are three good reasons why "Nian" shippers need to disband and start feeling happy for Somerhalder and Reed's marriage. Check them out below.
1. Somerhalder and Reed are soulmates.
Somerhalder and Reed are basically two peas in a pod. Both of them care deeply about the same things such as animal and environmental protection. They often post about their interests on their social media pages and encourage their followers to adopt homeless pets or buy organic produce.
Aside from their interests, the couple also posts loving tributes to one another. Last year, Somerhalder posted a happy photo with Reed and their pet dogs on Instagram. He captioned the picture: "A day with 3 of the most beautiful ladies in the universe... Wow, smiling is such a beautiful part of the human experience-I highly recommend it." He then addressed his wife, saying, "Thank you for giving so much of your life and for being a strong voice for those [who cannot] speak. My hat is off to you. You amaze me."
2. The couple is on the same page when it comes to marriage and babies.
A lot of couples cannot figure out when they would like to have babies and start a family, but Somerhalder and Reed have it all figured out. When E! News recently asked Reed about the couple's baby plans, Reed replied, "I'm sure that's in the cards."
As for Somerhalder, he is hoping that their future kids would even grow up pursuing the same passions and interests that he and Reed feel strongly about.
"One would hope that anyone that has this passion...would instill in their own children or of the like very similar ideology," he told E! News back in 2015.
3. Even Dobrev is happy about the couple's union.
Break-ups are never pretty, but Somerhalder and Dobrev seemed to have an amicable split. A lot of people imagined that Dobrev is harboring bitter sentiments when her ex-boyfriend and Reed tied the knot, but nothing could be further from the truth.
"When I heard about the wedding, I thought it was beautiful," she told ET Online last year. "They look happy and I am happy and so I don't see why there should be a problem with that."
Dobrev even added that she's still good friends with Somerhalder, so fans should not think that she is upset over his marriage. "I've said this before, that we didn't break up because anything bad happened or because there wasn't love or friendship," she explained. "I love him and the friendship is still strong and I think he's great and I care about him. And that didn't change. Yes, we're professional and that's fine.
