"Shadowhunters" star Alberto Rosende has teased that season 2 of the show might follow the trajectory of Cassandra Clare's books. The Freeform show has made some alterations to the storyline in order to make it more palatable for a TV audience, but Rosende, who plays Simon on the show, said that season 2 might follow the route of the books more closely.
"The way they want to build the story, it seems like they're really going to open it up and have a lot of fun," the actor told Showbiz Junkies. "That's what we're here for. I'm excited."

Rosende added: "As a book fan, we know that the second book... everything leads up to the third book, right? And then it starts over again in the fourth through sixth. So we've kind of started that trajectory ... And then I'm really excited to see where they take us in season two because of where we go. It's very exciting."
Series showrunner Ed Decter has announced that the upcoming season of the show will have 20 episodes. He also shared a few things for fans to expect in the next installment.

"The goal in the writers' room is to make the fans feel like we're not going to end up in the place they're expecting, then surprise them with how we get there," the producer told TVLine. "We try to keep some surprises for the hardcore fans who initially ask 'What are they doing? Why are they doing this?' The hope is that they eventually come to a point where they say, 'Oh, I get it. I see what they were doing before."
"Shadowhunters" season 2 has not been given an air date.
