DIY Fur Slides Are Taking Over Etsy

You could argue that fur-lined flats became a “thing” when Pheobe Philo put them in Celine’s spring 2013 collection. Later, designer Alessandro Michele helped stoke the flames of the trend, too. The furry loafers he released as part of his first women’s collection at Gucci last year were a huge hit. And then Rihanna’s fur (in this case, faux) slides for Puma, which launched in April, sort of brought the whole thing home. Retailing for just $80 and selling out immediately, the sandals helped the trend reach fashion-history status.

Case in point: Search for fur slides on Etsy today and hundreds of DIY takes on Ri-Ri’s Puma sandal pop up. Ironically, most sellers use Nike’s pool slides as a base, and then affix various shades of faux fur to the top. And they aren’t going for much; the most you’ll pay is $50 or $60 a pop.
