Good news, Gilmore Girls fans: We're getting closer to the premiere of the all new Netflix series, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. While a premiere date still hasn't been officially announced, the cast will unite at this year's Television Critics Association summer press tour later this month in Los Angeles (which usually means that it will air sometime before the end of the year—we're hearing November). Until then, we caught up with Lauren Graham (who plays Lorelai Gilmore, of course), at the Emmy nominations to talk about the revival's biggest plot points, finale details, and why Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life will be so much more emotional than the original show.

Glamour: Four 90-minute new episodes of Gilmore Girls will air later this year. Sorry to be greedy, but what's the chance we might get more after that?

Lauren Graham: I literally have no idea. There’s been no discussion of it. We just finished [shooting], so we’re going to just rest there for a minute. But I know from [creator] Amy [Sherman-Palladino]'s standpoint, she had to cut material. She had so much more, but we didn’t have time.

Glamour: The Carole King theme song, "Where You Lead," is iconic to the series. Will it return for the revival?

Lauren: I believe so, but there may be an additional…music is still being discussed because on Netflix they don’t really have a traditional title sequence. Of course, we’re not going to let go of the song. It will be there…where you follow. [Laughs]

Glamour: How much time picks up when we start the first episode?

Lauren: It’s real time. I’m not trying to pretend I’m 34 anymore. We are where we are, and all this time has passed. [It] picks up in iconic places for these three women. Of course, with the loss of Ed Herrmann, that is a major plot that everyone is dealing with in their own way. So [for] Kelly [Bishop], [it's] how to move on, [and for] Lorelai, [it's about] losing a parent. I think it gives the show a depth and a kind of grownup-ness that is appropriate.

Glamour: We’re at the Emmy nominations right now, and Emmy voters love dramatic, tearful moments. Aside from the heartbreak that the show will explore with the loss of Ed, will there be other big, difficult moments?

Lauren: Yes, it’s extremely emotional, and I would say, more so than the series. The range is a little wider, and the finale episode in particular is…every scene felt like a mountain. [Laughs] The last episode—it brings everything kind of together and a lot of catharsis.

Glamour: Will we see flashbacks and clips from the original series?

Lauren: Uh, probably. Yes, maybe. [Laughs]

Glamour: Did you take anything from the set this time?

Lauren: I did. Because the sets were old, yet new, we weren’t clear totally on what was old or new, so we gave things importance whether they had some or not. [Laughs] So, I have a pink tin flamingo that is very important to me now!

Glamour: Finally, if someone hasn’t seen the entire series, or has forgotten certain plot points, should they binge watch the entire series before the new episodes air?

Lauren: It’s very easy to pick up [without binge-watching the original]. It’s super clear, and I think if that seems fun to go through seven years times 22, please do. But you don’t need to know anything except maybe who the main love interests are, but I think that’s pretty clear.
