While red-carpet shoes can sometimes feel like meaningless garnish for the main course that is the dress, they're actually more like the secret ingredient that changes everything. Anyone who's revived a meh bridesmaid gown with a pair of killer heels understands this. Recently, designers, celebrities, and their stylists have been all about the "naked" shoe (i.e. the name for a sandal with two teeny-tiny straps and a stiletto heel, dubbed as such by Stuart Weitzman) but the trend is showing some signs of slowing down. Extra-pointy, high-as-can-be black pumps have been popping up everywhere again, bringing a bit of '90s edge to cocktail attire.

While the pointy black pump never went out of style per se, it hasn't been our go-to move for a while now. There's a certain femme fatale seriousness to the shoe that felt out of place during fashion's love affair with fabulous flats. Until now, that is. With '90s trends everywhere you turn, and cool girls like Emma Roberts, Kristen Stewart, and Jessica Chastain making a case for them in 2016, we're tempted to break out our old favorites–or maybe even buy a new pair.
Something else celebs seem to be into these days? Leaving their pants at home!
