Earlier this week, the online beauty community was rocked when Kat Von D announced that she was not only discontinuing her lipstick named after friend and fellow makeup artist Jeffree Star, but their close friendship was over too. Von D went public and issued a statement regarding the situation on Facebook, followed by a YouTube video, explaining what went wrong. You can watch the full video here.
The two friends became distant after both became immersed in their own eponymous makeup lines—both of which you might already know and love. But before Star's liquid lipsticks became as popular as they are today, Von D offered to help get his business off the ground. Without getting into too far into the he said, she said, the two eventually had a falling-out over a matter of payment for an artist who helped create Star's logo.
Following Von D's announcement, Star—who is currently traveling for Warped Tour—said he'd be filming a response shortly to share his end of the story. He finally released his reaction video last night, and it addresses every major point that Von D posed, along with some new information explaining the backstory between the pair's working relationship. The major things you need to know? The payment in question for artist BJ Betts has been settled, says Star, and the argument has officially been closed. Here's hoping the two can move on peacefully and amicably. We hate to see a friendship of two talented artists fall apart—for whatever reason. And it's especially upsetting to see a community so full of encouragement and positivity, stirred up in drama.
