In a digital culture that increasingly prizes authenticity above all else, Photoshop remains a touchy subject. On the one hand, some people are okay with the idea that images are adjusted and perfected (there are a host of photo-altering apps, for example, that can do just that), and yet others cry foul over things like Priyanka Chopra's eerily smooth armpits. (We actually conducted a Twitter poll on this very topic and 74% of respondents were okay with a minor amount of Photoshop—"like a flyaway hair.")
Well, leave it to the Try Guys to tackle this tricky topic in a playful (yet effective) way. Back in May, they revealed what happens when normal-looking dudes get Photoshopped to have more idealized male bodies. Now, in a follow-up video, the Try Guys subject themselves to some truly spectacular alterations based on female photo shoots—and the results are, of course, both hilarious and eye-opening.
One guy, Eugene, spends 45 minutes getting his face contoured before even stepping in front of the camera, then has his waist nipped in and butt boosted to resemble Kim Kardashian's. Another sees what he looks like with freckles and body hair completely erased. "I look like a vampire," Ned
Watching the guys' experience allows us to experience just a fraction of the pressure models and celebrities often feel to look perfect. "The most shocking part might be, after you see the Photoshopped version of yourself, you basically have seen what someone wished that you looked like," says Chrissy Mahlmeister, BuzzFeed lifestyles editor, who also appears in the video.
Keith sums it up succinctly: "Everyone is trying to be better and everybody is putting a better version of themselves out there. So you can't judge your raw self against someone else's affected self." That's one message we'll never need to stop hearing.
