everyday for her whimsical line of shoes and handbags, Amélie Pichard isn't your run-of-the-mill Parisian dressmaker. Her creations are wittily kitschy and completely eccentric, and her alternative of go back and forth destinations mirror this same aesthetic. while many are sourcing their notion from the sun-dripped elegance of the French Riviera or the stylish streets of the metropolis, Pichard finds suggestion from travels which are much less neatly-trod, and even otherworldly.
"i needed to try off-the-grid residing, and are living in an Earthship," says Pichard. A what? "Earthships are these passive solar houses, created by means of architect Michael Reynolds in the '70s. the person is a complete visionary." The concept behind Earthship constructions is that they are designed to collect and save their own power. They rely very minimally—if at all—on public utilities and fossil fuels. instead, they use herbal supplies, such as energy from solar, wind, and rain. Intrigued by this concept of dwelling away from historically-powered appliances, Pichard got down to discover other kinds of eco-buildings in Crestone, Colorado, and Santa Fe, Abiquiu, and Taos, New Mexico.
"My favorite second changed into waking up one Sunday absolutely snowed in. What's greater perfect than being without internet, forced to reside home together with your man, firewood, decent meals, a pretty good e-book, and champagne introduced from Paris?" if you ask us, there's nothing extra ultimate-sounding than that—simply so long as you pack the correct layers.
