"in your eyes i will see eternity," wrote Mustafa The Poet as a part of a compilation of works inspired with the aid of Valentino's Fall 2019 assortment, presented this afternoon at Les Invalides in Paris. And in exploring humankind's enduring look for love, nuanced gazes have been a vital part of this season's story for designer Pierpaolo Piccioli.
underneath architectural bucket hats and kooky, '70s-inspired chignons—hairstylist Guido Palau pulled out fuzzy, face-grazing wisps and misted them with Redken's Triple Dry 15 Dry Texture Spray for a splash of contemporary elegance—had been ethereal jolts of colour and alienesque bleached brows. "here's a futuristic, romantic Valentino girl," defined makeup artist Pat McGrath backstage, dabbing dermis Fetish Highlighter on the high planes of the face for supercharged complexions.

Mirroring the vivid palette of the plumed overcoats, photograph-art print dresses, and ruffled tulle robes, McGrath encased eyes in sumptuous jewel tones comparable to magenta to ultraviolet (courtesy of colorings Rose Risque and pink Reign from the MTHRSHP Subversive La Vie En Rose palette, respectively), fluidly blending the shiny pigments on the lids, outer corners, and under the waterlines. including a smooth veil of lavender to the hazel gaze of Texan splendor Sara Grace Wallerstedt, the mild burst became a cool contrast to the model's frothy orange netted dress as she glided down the runway.
The elegance lesson? whereas a monochromatic pop of color on the eyes can skew retro, canceling out one's herbal arches can instantly catapult the appear into exquisitely extraterrestrial territory.
