Music sensation Jessie J has recorded a new version of the theme song to "Grease" titled "Grease (Is The Word)" and will sing it live when "Grease Live" airs on Jan. 31 on Fox.
Jessie J revealed that she is thrilled to be able to put her own spin on the iconic movie tune, first recorded by Frankie Valli.
Jessie J said she feels "honored and lucky" to have been asked to take part in the production going on to say that she was "definitely keeping it close to the melody" so that the die-hard fans of the tune wouldn't be disappointed.
"There's no pressure like being the first one on stage. I love that rush of the nerves I'm going to get, I just feel very honored and very lucky that I've been asked to experience something like this," the singer admitted in a video interview.
"It's a massive moment for me and I'm very happy that I'm getting to share it with such amazing people. I'm keeping it as close to the melody as possible because the fans that love Grease that are going to see the show, I don't want to make it too different. But I've definitely kind of thrown in what I kind of like to do, which is a lot of this and a lot of this. Just put a little bit of me in it," she revealed of her own tweaks to the well-known tune.
The 'Bang Bang' singer also took to Twitter to say she was "Excited to be part of @GoGrease!"
"Grease Live" stars Julianne Hough as Sandy, Aaron Tveit as Danny, Vanessa Hudgens as Rizzo, Keke Palmer as Marty, Carlos PenaVega as Kenickie, Carly Rae Jepsen as Frenchy, Kether Donohue as Jan, David Del Rio as Putzie, Jordan Fisher as Doody and Andrew Call as Sonny.
Additional guest stars and cameos for the production include the following big name stars.
Appearing in the Fox special are Boyz II Men as Teen Angels, Mario Lopez as Vince Fontaine, Ana Gasteyer as Principal McGee, Eve Plumb as Mrs. Murdock, Yvette Gonzalez-Nacer as Cha Cha, Elle McLemore as Patty Simcox and Noah Robbins as Eugene.
"Grease Live" will reintroduce some of the most memorable moments, great music and the timeless love story of Danny and Sandy to an entirely new generation.
Based on the original 1971 Broadway musical "Grease," by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, Paramount Pictures' 1978 feature adaptation starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, grossed nearly $400 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing movie musical ever.
"Grease Live" airs on Fox on January 31.
