"X-Men: Days of Future Past" might have made audiences feel that their favorite mutants are safe from the clutches of death. However, director Bryan Singer has warned them not to feel complacent because fates are easily reversed in his upcoming film "X-Men: Apocalypse."
"(Those present-day characters are) all fair game, because anything can happen," he shared during an interview with IGN. "When two things are happening simultaneously in quantum physics, it's what's called a superposition. When the observer finally observes the outcome, that's called the outcome of the superposition, which is what happened when Wolverine woke up and saw all the happiness (at the end of 'Days of Future Past'). So yes, that is the outcome, we hope."
Singer explained that a positive outcome is something that everyone hopes to be "moving towards" to. However, things are not always so simple.
"But it's not - we saw in 'Days of Future Past' how time, we saw another dark world. What says that can't happen again? What says the awakening of a being that has such power (Apocalypse) can't acquire the power to destabilize that? So, you know, anything is possible. So that's what we'd like to think happened. But to me, it's fair game," he explained.
Meanwhile, producer Simon Kinberg told the Digital Spy that the main star of "Apocalypse" will be Michael Fassbender's Magneto. Fans will get the chance to delve into his backstory and understand why he would even consider teaming up with Oscar Isaac's Apocalypse.
"The person who is a fulcrum in this story is Magneto," Kinberg said. "If the last movie was Charles's, this one is Erik's. His emotional journey, his arc, is the backbone of this movie."
Other stars of the film include James McAvoy as Professor Charles Xavier, Jennifer Lawrence as Raven, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, and Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, among many others.
"X-Men: Apocalypse" will make its way to cinemas on May 27.
