"Fifty Shades Darker" is casting its main roles at a rapid pace now that production is underway in Vancouver. But are fans happy with the actors portraying some of the most critical roles in the next two films?

In the past several weeks, the roles of Elena Lincoln, Gia Matteo, Luke Sawyer and Leila Williams have been cast. Fans have been vocal in their likes and dislikes of the actors who will bring their favorite characters to life in the films, but do their opinions matter to producers?

Long time actress and model Kim Basinger signed on as Elena Lincoln, aka Mrs. Robinson; Arielle Kebbel hopped on board as Gia Matteo and Bella Heathcote was cast as Leila Williams.

Brant Daugherty has also been cast as Luke Sawyer, Anastasia Steele's (Dakota Johnson).

Fans have reported spotting the film's leads, Jamie Dornan (Christian) and Dakota Johnson (Anastasia) in the Vancouver area since filming began.

While the producers of the film have noted fan favorites, they still cast in the roles whom they felt would best characterize the characters and translate that to the big screen.

Upon filming the first movie, "Fifty Shades of Grey," fans were also quite vocal about their apparent dislike of the casting of Johnson and Dornan in the film's key roles.

The film's high box office gross (over $571M) proved that fans quickly changed their minds about the actors casting according to Box Office Mojo.

It is likely that producers are secure in their casting choices and look forward to the dynamic each talented actor brings to the well-known characters in the successful book series penned by E.L. James.

"Fifty Shades of Grey's" subsequent sequels will delve further into the relationship between polar opposites Ana and Christian, as well as featuring even more of the BDSM relationship fans have come to expect from the book franchise.

"I think it's going to be exciting and interesting to go back and develop characters further," Johnson revealed in an interview with Access Hollywood.

"The story is sort of like a thriller now, and it gets kinda scary, and it's awesome," she spilled of "Fifty Shades Darker."

"Fifty Shades Darker" debuts in theaters February 2017.
